How to Install Your Himalayan Salt Lamp Cord
Installing Your Himalayan Salt Lamp Cord
When your lamp arrives, the cord and socket assembly may be packaged separately from the salt rock. This is completely normal. Installing it takes less than a minute once you know how, and you only need to do it once. Here is exactly what to do.
What You'll Need
- Your salt lamp
- The cord and socket assembly
- A C7 candelabra bulb (E12 base) — 15-watt incandescent recommended.
Note: Bulbs are not included with your lamp to ensure they aren't damaged in transit. Not sure which bulb to get? Visit our Salt Lamp Bulb Guide for recommendations.
Step 1 — Screw in the bulb first
Before inserting the assembly into the lamp, screw your C7 bulb into the socket at the end of the cord. Expert Tip: Avoid touching the glass part of the bulb with your bare fingers. Skin oils can create "hot spots" that may cause the bulb to burn out prematurely. Use a tissue or clean cloth to hold the bulb.
Step 2 — Turn the lamp on its side
Lay the salt rock on its side to access the hole in the bottom of the wooden base. This gives you a clear view and easy access to the internal cavity.
Step 3 — Squeeze the metal wings
Look at the socket assembly and you'll notice two small metal arms or "wings" on the sides. Pinch these together firmly with your fingers to compress them inward. Don't worry about breaking them—they are designed to be springy and durable.
Step 4 — Insert and release
While holding the wings compressed, push the bulb and socket assembly up into the hole in the base of the lamp. Once it is fully seated, release the wings. You will feel a "click" as the metal arms spring outward to lock the assembly securely in place.
Step 5 — Route the cord
Stability Check: Make sure the cord is routed through the pre-cut notch in the wooden base. The cord should sit deeply in the notch so the lamp sits perfectly flat. A flat-sitting lamp is more stable and prevents the bulb from touching the interior salt walls.
Step 6 — Plug in and enjoy
Set your lamp upright, plug it in, and turn on the dimmer switch. Your lamp should glow with a warm, soothing amber light immediately.
A Few Tips for Success
- Check the cavity: Some lamps ship with a small silica gel packet inside to absorb moisture during transit. Please remove this before installing the cord.
- Easy removal: If you ever need to replace a bulb, simply press one of the metal wings inward from the side using a small flat object or your finger to release the assembly.
- Wattage Matters: Always use the recommended 15-watt bulb. Exceeding this wattage can generate excessive heat inside the stone.
- Troubleshooting: If the lamp doesn't light up, ensure the bulb is screwed in fully and your outlet is active. If using a dimmer cord, turn it to the highest setting for the first test.
