Coarse Himalayan salt is the most versatile grade in our culinary salt collection — 3-5mm crystals that work perfectly in salt grinders for fresh-ground finishing, directly in pasta water and stocks, as a brining and curing salt, and as a visual finishing element on plated dishes. The peppercorn-sized crystals are the right size for standard grinder mechanisms, give you visible control over how much you're adding, and create satisfying textural crunch when used as a finishing salt.

100% pure Himalayan pink salt exactly as it comes from the earth — hand-mined from Pakistan's Khewra Mine, untouched by processing or additives. The same 84 trace minerals as our fine grade, in a coarser crystal that dissolves more slowly and handles differently in the kitchen.

Himalayan Salt for Grinders — Primary Use

The 3-5mm crystal size fits standard salt grinder mechanisms perfectly — the same size range designed for coarse salt mills. Freshly ground Himalayan salt over a finished dish delivers flavor you can't replicate with pre-ground salt. The pink crystals are also visually striking in clear acrylic grinders on the table.

Fill your grinder with coarse Himalayan salt and keep it at the table for guests to season their own plates — the mineral complexity of freshly ground pink salt is noticeably different from standard table salt shakers.

Coarse Himalayan Salt Kitchen Applications

  • Salt grinders and mills — the primary use, crystal size fits standard mechanisms
  • Pasta and cooking water — season generously; the coarse crystals provide controlled seasoning easier to gauge than fine powder
  • Brining meats — turkey, pork, chicken, pork belly. The minerals enhance texture and flavor during brining
  • Curing and preserving — salmon gravlax, duck confit, pickles, ferments
  • Finishing dishes — sprinkle coarse crystals over finished plates for textural crunch and visual appeal
  • Grilling and roasting — season proteins and vegetables before cooking; the crystals hold position better than fine salt during prep
  • Cocktail rimming — better mineral flavor than standard bar salt for margarita rims and similar applications

Fine vs. Coarse Himalayan Salt — Which to Choose

Choose coarse grade for: Salt grinders, finishing dishes, brining and curing, applications where textural crunch is desirable, cocktail rimming, and cooking where you want visible crystal presence and dissolution time isn't critical.

Choose fine grade for: Baking where even distribution matters, quick-dissolving applications, precise measuring, salt shakers, smooth sauces and dressings, and everyday cooking where the salt should disappear into the dish.

Many kitchens keep both — coarse in the grinder on the table, fine grade for cooking and baking.

Why This Salt Is Different from Table Salt

  • 84 trace minerals — magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron, and 80+ more vs. table salt's processed sodium chloride
  • Naturally occurring iodine — present in the mineral structure, not artificially added after processing
  • Unrefined and unprocessed — no anti-caking agents, no additives, no bleaching
  • Natural pink color — from iron oxide and mineral content, not dyes. Beautiful in clear grinders and visually distinctive as a finishing salt
  • Ancient purity — formed 250 million years ago, sealed from modern industrial pollution

Choosing Your Size

  • 2 lb — ideal for trying coarse Himalayan salt or smaller households. Fills one large grinder multiple times.
  • 5 lb — best for regular cooking use. Refills grinders and provides enough for frequent brining and finishing applications.
  • 10 lb — for frequent cooks, those who brine regularly, or households using Himalayan salt as their primary cooking salt.
  • 20 lb — for serious home cooks, small restaurants, meal prep operations, or anyone wanting maximum value per ounce.

Diet Compatibility

  • Paleo and Keto — unprocessed whole food mineral ingredient
  • Vegan — pure mineral salt, no animal products
  • Non-GMO — geological salt formed millions of years before GMOs existed
  • Gluten-free — pure mineral, no grain contamination
  • No artificial additives of any kind

Storage

Store in a cool, dry location in an airtight container. Salt doesn't expire but moisture causes clumping. If crystals clump in humid conditions, spread on a baking sheet and dry in a low oven (200°F) for 10-15 minutes. Natural color variation between bags is normal and confirms authentic mineral content from different areas of the Khewra Mine deposit.

Authentic Himalayan Pink Salt from Pakistan's Khewra Mine

Every bag is hand-mined from Pakistan's Khewra Salt Mine — the only authentic source of Himalayan pink salt on earth. No processing beyond harvesting and sizing. We've sourced from the same trusted Pakistani supplier for over 15 years.
